Flecks of Gold

This is a pen and colored pencil drawing I started at the beach. The sand and wind were both inspiring and annoying at the same time.

The process I used for this drawing is at the bottom of the post, if you’re interested.

Flecks of Gold

First, I sketched out the shape of the girl’s head. Next, I used a pencil to draw the shape of the hair, face, and neck and shoulders. I got my pen out and outlined everything for a second time, creating a definite line where there was a more sketchy collection of lines. I shaded a bit of the strands of hair with the pen and took out my pencil to shade more. Then, I highlighted the high points on the face and neck, and “flecks” in parts of the hair. Lastly, I lightly sketched the glow to the right of the drawing.
